Who am I?

I am a holistic RN, and I talk to people all over the country occasionally on the other side of the world, through my channel, through comments below, and I talk about holistic remedies for the stomach bug and other sicknesses.

I’ve been doing this for about 20 years. I am not giving medical advice; I’m literally telling you what I do with my family when we get sick. Prior to the last 20 years, we followed the standard American medical guidance on everything, but we have learned that is not the way to go if you want to not be dependent upon the system.

How to Prevent the Stomach Bug

We want to prevent illness, but when something happens or if you didn’t know there was a way to prevent stomach bugs, we want to give you all the information that we have gained along the way.

Nowadays, we don’t even get the stomach bug and if we do it lasts for a few hours and it’s incredibly mild. That’s because we have learned a lot along the way and we’re here today to tell you everything we know.

If you’ve got nausea and something is churning in your gut, it’s usually a virus. Occasionally, it could be food poisoning and that’s a different path that we won’t discuss in this post.

Activated Charcoal for Stomach Bug?

An activated charcoal will neutralize whatever is trying to replicate in your stomach. If it’s a viral stomach bug, this is what you want to take.

Take a couple of those every couple hours and that is going to most likely nip it in the bud right there. FWI: do not take multivitamins when you’re taking activated charcoal because it will neutralize your multivitamins.

Oscillococcinum

The next thing is something that’s really hard to pronounce it’s called Oscillococcinum and if you’ve watched my supplements video you’ll see what I have to say about it, but it’s an antiviral. It will shorten the duration of your sickness.

It’s available at any pharmacy including the ones in the big box stores. Watch for sales and you can usually get it for buy one get one half off. I try to stock up when there are sales to save money.

Kombucha

You want to boost your immune system if you are able to keep fluids down. One of the best things you can do for a stomach bug is ginger kombucha. Ginger ale is full of sugar and most of the time it’s full of high fructose corn syrup, so none of that is beneficial when you’re sick, but in the ginger kombucha, the ginger itself is fantastic.

Ginger in any capacity any way that you can keep it down is going to be soothing to your stomach, but just taking sips of ginger kombucha will be the most beneficial.

Fever?

Should we get rid of the fever? Usually not. Use your best judgment. Fevers are your friends so do not try to get rid of a fever. You can soak into Epsom salt bath that will help soothe and calm your body and put some magnesium in it to calm the body aches down. Another thing we can do for hydration is bone broth.

Bone Broth

I’ve got bone broth videos all over my channel but when you’re sick you are not making bone broth so it’s nice to keep a decent quality bone broth in your pantry.

Costco has a good broth. The reason I like it is you put this in the fridge it congeals that is a good sign that you’ve got some collagen in there. Just add salt to taste as this doesn’t come with any seasonings in it.

Blueberries/Tea

Get wild blueberries. I prefer wild over organic or cultivated because they’re blue. I mean these babies are purple. Blueberry water is very hydrating and balancing to your gut. We put a little bit of stevia in you can also use a little maple syrup. It’s a little trickier to dissolve honey in something that’s cold, but I just put literally two tablespoons of blueberries in there.

Elderberry and echinacea herbal tea is so good. Just steep some elderberry and echinacea tea and it’s so soothing to an upset stomach.

Probiotics for stomach bug

One of the main reasons people get the stomach flu because they very likely just eating a junky diet. There’s lots of things you can do to learn how to eat healthier, but one of the most important things you can do for your ounce of prevention is the probiotic rich foods like kefir. That is the first video I made I think it was six years ago. How to make milk kefir and How to make kefir yogurt. You can buy kefir grains here if you decided to make your own.

Multivitamins

Next, you need a daily vitamin but I also use it to culture foods because this probiotic is fantastic. It’s by a company called Code Age and this particular one is 50 billion count. It’s fantastic, and it’s yellow, and it’s actually fermented on turmeric among other things. This is one of the best probiotics you’ll ever find and the price is fantastic.

Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE)

Another great product we use for respiratory flu is Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) by Zazzee. We put this into size 00 capsules available on Amazon and take 2 capsules 2 to 3 times a day. GSE is very antibacterial and can knock out a flu bug in a couple days.

I’ve never seen it fail we’ve and been using it for 20 years. GSE isn’t an antibiotic it just acts like one. It’s actually an anti-parasitic and it has a low antiviral impact. It’s not enough to take it as an antiviral, but antibacterial for real. Just be aware that it will decrease your friendly bacteria in addition to the bad stuff, so using a probiotic like the kefir mentioned above will help replace the lost friendly bacteria.

In Conclusion

So, these are the things we do in our family to combat the flu and other stomach bugs. What do you do? what products do you use to prevent and treat stomach bugs? Comment below.
