Hi, I’m Holly Morrison—welcome back to Midwest Meanderings! I’m excited to chat about a topic close to my heart: keeping the Body of Christ healthy and prepared for whatever lies ahead with Grapefruit Seed Extract.

We all know it’s wise to be ready for uncertain times. As we head into an election cycle, stocking up on essentials like food and comfort items can bring peace of mind. After all, 2020 through 2022 taught us how quickly things can shift. But my focus today is different—today, I want to talk about a concept the Lord has shown me called “getting the Bride of Christ into the Ark of natural remedies.”

Building the Ark of Natural Remedies

If you’ve followed me here or on YouTube, you know I’m a big fan of natural health—especially supplements like bone broth, collagen, milk kefir, and honey-fermented garlic. These have become mainstays in my own wellness toolkit, and now I’m working on a book that brings together these principles and more. (And yes, I’ll share details on that soon!)

To get you started, I’m sharing the basics of building a “healing toolbox.” It’s about boosting your immune system and managing inflammation in a way that sets you up for long-term health. If that sounds like a journey you’re ready for, I’ve compiled my top 20 supplements in a blog post. (Click here to read that post.) Many of these have been part of my routine for years, and while I occasionally adjust them, these essentials stay on my list.

Grapefruit Seed Extract: My Go-To Remedy

One product I swear by is Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE), specifically the Zazzee brand. This has been a game-changer in my health journey, especially after the original NutriBiotic brand reduced its concentration a few years ago.

GSE is an amazing natural remedy for bacterial infections, which often follow on the heels of viral illnesses like the flu or a bad cold. If you’ve had a lingering cough or sinus congestion after a cold, that’s often bacteria taking advantage of leftover inflammation. Grapefruit Seed Extract can be your best defense here. When I say this, I’m speaking from experience—I’ve used GSE in situations where antibiotics were the only other option, and it’s worked every time.

My general guidance for adults is to start with a low dose, increasing if needed. And while I don’t often share dosing info for children online (for safety reasons), I’m always happy to connect one-on-one to help with guidance. This remedy has become part of my family’s health journey, and it’s my passion to share it with you.

A Heart for Healing

For me, this isn’t just a professional mission. God has brought me through my own health struggles, teaching me along the way so I can share it with others. I feel called to help the Bride of Christ step into wellness—physically, spiritually, and emotionally. And if you’re reading this and don’t yet know the Lord, I hope this can be an invitation to experience His love. If you reach out, I’m more than happy to chat, pray, and share a Bible with you.

Teaching Kids to Take Grapefruit Seed Extract

If you have younger kids and aren’t sure they’re ready for capsules, there are ways to work around it. For very young children, you can start by mixing GSE in juice, though it’ll take a good stir as GSE tends to stick. For kids old enough to start learning, I recommend practicing with a small probiotic pearl—an easy, smooth capsule that’s perfect for teaching.

My Grapefruit Seed Extract Protocol

Grapefruit Seed Extract has become our go-to for tackling bacterial infections, especially when viral illnesses leave that lingering cough or congestion. Here’s the basic dosing I use for adults: 25 drops in a capsule, taken three times daily with food for at least two weeks. That’s the amount that fills a double-zero capsule. If you’d rather not count out the drops each time, you can place them directly into the capsule—my preferred method to skip the taste, which, let’s just say, isn’t for everyone! If you’re seeing early signs (think: runny nose or congestion with clear or light yellow mucus), this dose is generally enough. For deeper infections, like when you’re bringing up green or yellow phlegm, you may need to extend treatment. If your symptoms worsen after 48 hours, you can safely increase the dose a little more.

For kids, the dose will depend on their weight. A capsule half-filled with GSE works well for my ten-year-old, who’s about the size of a petite adult. For smaller children, about 10-15 drops in juice is an option, but remember to monitor their intake.

As a general rule, I recommend pairing GSE with a probiotic at bedtime to keep the gut balanced. If you ever experience “tummy turbulence,” some yogurt or bananas can help, along with a solid probiotic.

Food for Thought

Boosting our immunity means keeping inflammation down, too. Diet plays a huge part, and I’ve noticed big changes in my own health since moving toward a more anti-inflammatory way of eating. Cutting back on processed foods, refined sugars, and sticking to whole foods has helped reduce inflammation all around.

In a season where uncertainty looms, preparing for health and wellness should be a priority, focusing on essentials that nourish both body and spirit. We’ve all seen what it’s like when shelves go empty, so having foundational items on hand that support your health can be invaluable.

Nutrition and Supplements

Let’s talk about a dietary approach that’s anti-inflammatory and supports long-term health. Options like Whole30 are a fantastic start for transitioning off processed foods, while PR Metabolic emphasizes whole foods with fewer carbs, combined in balanced proportions. For those leaning toward ketogenic, a “ketovore” diet—a low-carb, high-fat diet that isn’t strictly zero carbs—can work well, particularly for those managing autoimmune issues or hormonal changes like menopause. For me, this approach has been my sweet spot, balancing energy and inflammation.

Key Supplements

  • Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE): This is a powerful antibiotic.

  • Vitamin D3 with K2: This combination is vital. K2 helps your body absorb D3 effectively and directs it where it’s needed, supporting everything from immune health to bone strength. All ages can benefit from this, and I recommend it in a coconut oil base for optimal absorption.

I’ve linked some options in my supplement video, which leads to Amazon, so you can select the one that works best for your needs. I sometimes switch brands depending on availability and cost, but D3 with K2 remains a non-negotiable.

For Kids: Start with Cod Liver Oil

For children, fermented cod liver oil is a great starting point. Capsules are an option, but if they’re not quite ready for a capsule, the lemon-flavored liquid form is an easier sell. My favorite way to introduce it is by mixing it into juice or water with a touch of monk fruit or maple syrup.

For a strong immune foundation, I recommend these three essentials:

1. Cod Liver Oil: Provides natural D3 and other healthy fats.

2. Probiotics: We get ours through milk kefir, which has transformed our gut health. A high-quality probiotic can also work if kefir isn’t an option yet.

3. Daily Vitamin D3: About 1,000–3,000 IU for children and around 5,000 IU for adults, ideally with K2, especially if the D3 is in a coconut oil base.

Probiotic Health for the Whole Family

Gut health is foundational. If you’re just starting with probiotics, or have recently taken antibiotics, ramping up your probiotic intake is key. Milk kefir is ideal—it cultures your gut naturally and can replace the need for probiotic capsules. Store-bought kefir is also an option if homemade isn’t possible, and you can sweeten the plain variety with monk fruit to avoid extra sugar. I find nighttime to be the best time to take probiotics, allowing the body to replenish while you sleep.

Fun Fact: D3 is known as the sunshine vitamin. If you’re indoors much of the time, supplementing with it becomes even more important, especially during winter.

On Viral Prevention and Immune Health

Vitamin D3 is essential for immune health. If you find yourself catching viruses often, it’s a clear signal to increase your D3 intake. Kids can benefit from D3 dots without K2, but for adults, D3 paired with K2 is more effective.

For preventing stomach bugs, I recommend keeping activated charcoal on hand and boosting milk kefir intake regularly to “bulletproof” your gut. Probiotic-rich food, like kefir, can be part of your daily diet for ongoing immunity support. For instance, our family no longer takes additional probiotics because our gut health is strong, thanks to regular milk kefir.

A Message on Preparedness

Years ago, the Lord gave me a dream during a difficult health season. In it, He showed me that a “short-term shaking” would come—a period where central banks would decline. He encouraged me to prepare with food storage, especially protein sources, despite my dietary shift. While I may have a stock of beans I no longer consume, they’re still there to help those in need.

Mary had colitis so she doesn’t get beans at all anymore. She never really liked them anyway but, Colitis and asthma often go hand in hand. Thankfully, we have resolved those issues. We don’t typically eat beans, but we have a stock of organic beans from Azure Standard, which we know are still good.

It’s wise to steward what we’ve been given, and these times remind us of the importance of readiness and faithfulness to God’s guidance. A Prophetic Dream and its Implications

Eight years ago, I had a dream in which the Lord indicated there would be a short-term shaking—something that might last a few months, around three. While I never received an exact duration, I sensed that this period could be longer or shorter than three months. If you prepare for three months, you’ll be ready for four or five if needed.

In the dream, the Lord told me that I would know this shaking was occurring when central banks began to decline dramatically. At first, I thought of a local bank here in Missouri called Central Bank, but after discussing it with a knowledgeable European friend, I learned that central banks refer to the Federal Reserve.

So, do you keep an eye on the Federal Reserve and other central banks? If you notice a sharp decline, I believe it will signal the beginning of this prophesied period. As we entered this year, I kept thinking, “Okay, Lord, it’s an election year; this is going to be an interesting ride. What do you have in store for us?” This dream has resurfaced in my mind several times in recent months, especially now that it is August 2024. My husband and I are in great unity about it, and we’ve been making wise preparations.

Practical Preparations

After the dream, I asked the Lord what we should stock up on. He emphasized the importance of comfort and calories. Comfort food might look different for each family; for us, it’s chocolate! Beans are a practical choice; they may not be everyone’s favorite, but they provide essential nourishment and can feed a lot of people.

So, consider this a gentle suggestion. If you start seeing the Federal Reserve or central banks declining, it might be wise to stock up on essentials. Head to your local Dollar Store and grab what you can—without fear. Remember, God has not given us a spirit of fear but one of power, love, and a sound mind. He keeps those in perfect peace who trust in Him.

Trusting in God

It’s vital to maintain your faith in God during uncertain times. If you don’t trust Him, you may miss out on His provision when He shows up for you. As believers, we belong to Him, and He takes care of what belongs to Him.

If you’re the only one paying attention to these signs, that’s okay. There’s always the possibility that this might turn out to be a false alarm, and if that’s the case, consider it a blessing.

Immune Support

Now, let’s talk about immune support. I encourage you to ask the Lord for dreams and visions if you don’t typically receive them. Spend time in His Word and find peace in Him. There are other videos I’ve made about protocols, including an iodine protocol for making a nasal spray and gargle. These can be particularly beneficial for anyone heading out into the world, providing additional resistance against illness.

Guidelines for Administering Grapefruit Seed Extract to Children

I also want to share about GSE (grapefruit seed extract), which has been a part of our family’s health regimen for 17 years. We haven’t used prescription antibiotics in that time, even when we’ve needed them. This product has been key for us, but I want to stress the importance of using it responsibly—especially for children.

For children under 12 months, I advise caution. I’m not able to provide guidance on that unless you’re family, as it’s crucial to monitor their health closely due to the risk of rapid dehydration and serious complications.

For kids over a year, there’s more leeway. Remember that fevers can be beneficial; you don’t want to eliminate them entirely. If a fever exceeds 102°F and your child is uncomfortable, it’s okay to administer a dose of GSE before bedtime to help them rest.

Keep them hydrated, avoid junk food and artificial ingredients, and use common sense.

When it comes to using GSE for bacterial infections, it’s essential to know when to seek emergency help. Be mindful of their symptoms and the severity of the situation. If your child has a fever but is otherwise healthy, you can manage their care at home.

Children’s Health and Grapefruit Seed Extract

When it comes to your child’s health, especially during illness, it’s essential to know how to manage symptoms effectively. For kids over one year old, you can start with 15 drops of grapefruit seed extract (GSE) three times a day, ensuring they take it with food. A probiotic at bedtime is also crucial to maintain gut health, especially after any antibiotic use. If your child has a fever over 102°F and is uncomfortable, consider dosing them before bed to help them sleep, while ensuring they stay hydrated.

It’s important to avoid synthetic medications when possible. Instead, focus on hydration, rest, and natural remedies. Monitor the color of nasal discharge: clear indicates no infection, white suggests mild infection, and yellow or green could mean a bacterial infection is present.

In cases of viral infections, emphasize rest and support the immune system with hydration and nutrition. A good rule of thumb is to continue using GSE for at least a week, adjusting the dosage based on your child’s size and symptoms.

Trust your instincts as a parent. If you’re unsure or feel something is off, don’t hesitate to consult a pediatrician. Remember, maintaining your child’s health is about prevention and having the right resources on hand.
